About the CELPIP Speaking test

The CELPIP Speaking test contains eight tasks in about 15 minutes, ranging from giving advice and describing a personal experience to describing a scene, making predictions, and dealing with a difficult situation. Preparation time is short and there is no second attempt, so rehearsing each task type matters more than general conversation practice.

Pick a task, record your response in the browser, and submit it. Your audio is transcribed and evaluated on content, vocabulary, listenability, and task fulfilment, with notes on where you hesitated or drifted off topic. Scoring here is deliberately strict, so the level you see is a study signal rather than a prediction of your official result.

Speaking is reported as its own level from 0 to 12, and from level 3 up that number is your CLB speaking level. Most economic immigration programs ask for CLB 7 in every skill, and speaking is often the skill that holds an application back, so the estimated level here is worth tracking task by task.

Recording yourself repeatedly on the same task type is the quickest way to cut filler words and stay inside the time limit.

CELPIP Speaking Practice - FAQ

Eight, in about 15 minutes. They run from giving advice and talking about a personal experience through describing a scene, making predictions, comparing and persuading, dealing with a difficult situation, and expressing opinions. Each task type rewards a different structure, which is why rehearsing them separately beats general conversation practice.

Usually 30 seconds to prepare and 60 to 90 seconds to speak, depending on the task. The practice here uses the same timings per task type. There is no second attempt in the real exam, so the habit worth building is starting to speak immediately when the timer flips rather than pausing to think.

CLB 9. CELPIP-General reports a level from 0 to 12 for each skill, and from level 3 up that level is already your CLB level, so no conversion is needed. Our CELPIP score chart page has the full table and the minimum each immigration program asks for.

Your audio is transcribed, then graded on content, vocabulary, listenability, and task fulfilment, with notes on where you hesitated or drifted off the prompt. Scoring is deliberately strict. Treat the estimated level as a study signal, not a prediction: only Paragon can tell you your CELPIP result.

A free account gets a daily allowance, shown at the top of this page with what is left of it. Recording and practising itself has no limit. If you want to work through all eight tasks in one sitting, an optional paid pass gives more AI reviews (Writing and Speaking together): a Day pass ($4.99 CAD, up to 100 AI reviews in its 24 hours), a 7-day pass ($5.99 CAD) or a 30-day pass ($14.99 CAD), each up to 30 AI reviews per 24 hours.

Any built-in microphone works, including on a phone. Recording happens in the browser, so there is nothing to install, but you do need to allow microphone access when prompted. A quiet room helps the transcription, and background noise is the most common cause of a response coming back with words missing.
